Reflections in Granite
The photo captures a large tilted granite block surrounded by smaller stones and greenery at the river’s edge. Its reflection in the water creates a natural symmetry that emphasizes both the weight of stone and the fluidity of the river.
The stone leans outward, finding balance in water.
This image shows a tilted granite block and smaller cut stones along the Kennebec River, reminders of Hallowell’s granite industry. Once quarried and shipped from this riverfront, the stones now remain as fragments of a working past.
This photograph shows weathered granite remnants along the Kennebec River, rising sharply against a backdrop of green foliage. The stone’s mirrored image in the still water suggests both permanence and transience, held together in reflection.
For some reason I am fascinated by this granite block sticking out from the riverbank just above the boat landing in Hallowell. I just wish I could catch an Heron sitting on it.
