The Long Edge of Stone

The rocky cliffs of Monhegan Island extend into the ocean under a clear blue sky. Waves break at their base, a reminder of the constant meeting between land and sea. (Note: The photo above is a low resolution copy of the original. See the full resolution version at LHayesArt.com)

Stone leans into sea, horizon stretches without end.
Cliffs warmed by sunlight, the ocean resting below.
The island’s bones listen, speaking in the ocean’s tongue.

This photograph presents the rugged shoreline of Monhegan Island, where weathered cliffs and sparse vegetation meet the vast Atlantic horizon. The image emphasizes the resilience of the island landscape, carved by time and tide yet standing firm against the sea.

This is one of the favorite places of my friend Michel-Paul (pictured below taking his own photo of the scene with his partner Jon beside him). Michel-Paul has been after me to visit Monhegan for years and so we planned this trip (Sadly, my wife Lori had to stay at the camp with the dogs.)
