The Little Island
A lone tree crowns the isle,
holding its silence between stone and sky.
A tall pine grows from a small granite island, its branches layered in light as it towers above the waterline. The surrounding foliage glows with autumn’s hues, while the stone base anchors the tree in both earth and history. Rising from an isolated perch, the pine embodies resilience, solitude, and the enduring presence of nature within the river’s flow.
This is the bigger of two islands on Echo Lake that we have always called the Little Islands. They were among the first places I was allowed to take a boat to when I was a kid and I did so quite frequently. There wasn’t much there and you couldn’t really move around for all the Blueberry bushes, but it was an adventure nonetheless.
Over the years I have tried to get a good photo of the island but none of the one I took matched how I felt about the island. However, as the fall colors started coming in, I think I was finally successful.
