Pownalborough Courthouse

If you read the novel “The Frozen River”, an important trail was held at Pownalborough Courthouse. Now, you might be excused if you wondered where Pownalborough actually was. Turns out that was what Dresden was called when it was first incorporated in 1760 as part of a larger municipality that included Wiscasset. It became Dresden when the smaller territory was incorporated in 1795.

Anyway…

Pownalborough Courthouse has been preserved and sits on a beautiful site that feature hiking trails and some good views of the Kennebec.
